im in kourna. the only strategy worth using with heroes is to send everyone en masse to the same target. |

Don't take this the wrong way but I think you should check out the builds forums or Guildwiki, get your heros some good builds and learn how to use them? If you having trouble getting 800 points, you should go back to Istan. You won't stand a chance in later parts of the game when it really gets hard.

The concerns are valid but then again, it's not that much grind. You should be able to get the points in a couple of hours while you do boring delivery boy quests or unlock outposts that you dont need anyways...
I had to get the needed sunspear points so that i could challenge Morgan's men on Istan. Had to do some delivery work there. Boring. After many hours and reaching level 13 i could finally leave this terrible noob isle. A boring and bad aspect of the game but overall i like GW. A pity that they make players do stuff that they find boring. People dont really team up much, that's true. Mostly due to hero teams being stronger than the average PUG and due to how easy most parts of Nightfall are. In the other chapters, people are more likely to PUG - especially in Cantha. Nightfall seems less demanding than the other two already easy chapters. Many missions are just pointless slaughtering of the same chanceless mobs until you reach the boss. Some are more interesting though and you'll usually find people to team up with for those. GW isnt a strategical game, it's a tactical game. So no surprise that you wont find any strategy. Many players love the grind as you can see from many responses in this thread and the developers seem to cater to those players more and more each chapter. It's still a good game though, and im looking forward to GWEN - not to do all the boring delivery boy quests but hopefully for some exciting missions and a nice story line . Quote:

In kourna, you should be level 20. Switch to HM and go for bosses after 25 kills. This'll net you more than 800 points in two boss kills.

... If I can get over 1000 points by wiping out Sunward Marches or Marga Coast in Normal Mode with my Dervish.... then getting 800 points is no trouble at all.
Desolation? Not necessary. My Assassin was Sunspear Castellan before he even reached Vabbi.... as was my Elementalist.... and neither of them even touched Hard Mode. |

The OP isnt asking about how to farm SP just for the sake of a new title but for progressing the story line. You have to get some Sunspear rank after leaving noob isle, most characters wont be level 20 then btw. 800 points is interesting news though. Didnt know that. |

He probably needs the required 2500 for Sunspear General to be able to progress with And a Hero Shall Lead them...Regardless that should take no time at all and honestly, if you've done every quest and are still shy, you obviously haven't been taking the bounty at every opportunity.
As for hero control like everyone else has said, hero's are more often then not better then any pug you can find. It just seems as tho you need work on managing them and making them efficient. |

I know all that, it doesn't change the fact. The best strategy is to take targetts down one at a time (as most mobs outlevel them individually and outnumber the group anyway).

Wow please don't skip the rest of Elona lol. Its the best content in the game IMHO... You'd be missing out on a LOT.

But I do agree that Elona shouldn't be skipped any more than any other part of the game should be skipped. While you can go main-quest exclusive and skip all the other content in theory.... I'd recommend taking a good look around any of the continents to experience them properly. Unlike some people I do not advocate quick-playing... [while with some characters I have skipped straight from Gates of Kryta (end at Lion's Arch) to Sanctum Kay in prophecies, I always come back later for the Maguuma Jungle] |

I have found that the most fun strategy when needing to 'grind' for sunspear or lightbringer points is to try to combine the grind with something else. For example, you could set yourself the task of completely mapping an area - helps towards cartography title. Or, take a look an area in Guildwiki and find out if there are any useful elite skills you can capture while getting sunspear points. Similarly you could find out if there any useful items to collect that can be traded in for collectors weapons - as an example of this, the popular sunspear farming area just east of Yohlon Haven in Arkjok Ward can produce lots of insect carapaces that can be swapped for good collectors weapons etc.
I am currently grinding LB points in Mirror Of Lys with one of my newer characters and combining it with chest opening and ID'ing gold items. Last edited by shanaya; Aug 24, 2007 at 09:38 AM // 09:38.. |

ok listen, it is only in NF there is a grind, there is a very small one in Factions but that can be fun and you get something useful, unlike the just the sunspear title. I think grinding is only horrible if you make it horrible, i mean dont just sit there in one go, grind 1/4 of your target then watch TV, play another game, play a board game (I love those things ^^) or go out for a walk. But seriousley, if your having trouble getting 800 points you will have trouble for the rest of the game. it'll seem really easy if you had of gotten the bountys in the first place, you would either not have to grind or only get like 100 points.

Its optional, you dont need to to advance in this game, and if you choose to grind out certain titles and so on, thats at your decision, not because you are required to by the game GW is rather ground breaking in being the the only massive online to not require high lvl grinding and stuff like that My 2 cents I dont mean to step all over you by the way so dont take it that way, just speakin out Last edited by Ghryphon; Aug 24, 2007 at 01:06 PM // 13:06.. |

I don't intend to skip anything. That's not my style. If it was as simple as that, there'd be no problem.

Ok... Wishface?
I don't know what you personally find entertaining..... but I rather like wiping out large groups of enemies. How about this for a challenge: Across Kourna... find the way to enter each explorable area closest to the Kournan Soldier bounty.... get the bounty... then charge up and clear out the fort in that area. Keep a count based on the Acolytes of the Gods defeated and count it as an achievement on behalf of the Sunspears. I strongly recommend saving Jahai Bluffs for last... not least because it has two forts to clear out... but because the one in the middle has the Acolyte of Balthazar. As an extra warning... do NOT bring a Minion Master to fight him. It is suicide. ~~~ Generally though... when I'm clearing an area for Sunspear points, I try to avoid killing anything that I don't have a bounty for. Sometimes just trying to avoid patrols and make your way to the shrine to get the bounty before killing any of them can make the hunt more fun. Plus of course it is a good way to level up heroes. |
